Rod owns and operates Coldwater Guide Service in Iowa. He specializes in fly fishing the spring-fed cold water streams of Northwest Iowa. Rod is known as a very knowledgeable fishing guide covering the local streams of NW Iowa. Rod specializes in fly fishing techniques to catch trout and is known to be very patient when teaching clients his tactics. Whether you're an expert fly fishermen or just starting out, Rod can accommodate both. He's a very experienced fishing guide on the narrow streams of Iowa and can teach you everything from fly fishing techniques to tying wind knots.

Rod prefers to specialize in guided wade fishing trips on Big Creek Lake, West Okoboji Lake and the Driftless Area in Iowa. The Driftless Area or as some people refer to it as the Driftless Region is one of the most unique places when compared to the rest of Iowa. The limestone bluffs that line the Mississippi were untouched by the receding glaciers of the last ice age. The unique geology of the Driftless Region is responsible for the 100's of spring-fed cold water streams that have the temperature, chemistry and aquatic insect base to support a healthy number of trout in the area. While we offer fly fishing trips in the Driftless Area, we also can offer spin casting fishing trips if you're interested.

One of Rod's favorite fly fishing techniques on West Okoboji Lake is the Tenkara method. Tenkara is a Japanese fly fishing technique that is well known for how simple it is. Utilizing only a rod, a line and a fly, it is very easy to learn and a lot of fun to do! Rod has all the gear necessary and the expertise to teach you Tenkara and put fish on your line.
